About

2021 marks the beginning of an important decade for European cities.

While national governments are starting to recognise that they cannot tackle global challenges alone, cities are stepping up and taking more responsibility. It is also clear that to deliver on European post-pandemic priorities towards a more sustainable, people-centric economy, cities play a key role.

With the agreement on the Green Deal and the renewal of the Leipzig Charter we have the opportunity to address some of these key issues in our conference and in our awards: circularity and climate neutrality, urban planning for all, and a sustainable food cycle – how will they contribute to a just, green and productive transformation of our societies.
